Empire State Strikes a Blow for Health and Justice!

The recent agreement between New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo regarding the governor's proposal to "decriminalize" possession of 25 grams or less of marijuana is interesting —particularly in view of the mayor's proposal a few days earlier to ban "sugary" sodas larger than 16-oz.

Hmmm. I wonder if a person who is found with just 22 grams of marijuana is given a lecture. A scowl maybe?

Is It Coming To
 "Fat Prisons"?

Prison cell, Fort Leavenworth

What if he or she has a legal amount of marijuana but is caught with a 17-oz. cup of Fresca?

What if a person possesses 21 grams. of marijuana several times in a single day?

Should an officer inquire if a suspect had any previous possession in less than 24 hours which might exceed the 25 gram limit?

What if a person is found with 26 grams of marijuana and a 17-oz. can of Fresca at the same time? Is that "double jeopardy?"

Another stipulation of the governor's marijuana possession proposal stipulates that even when a citizen has less than 25 grams, it  cannot be "in public view." Could this "public view" stipulation eventually apply to 17 oz. soda pop?

Great to see Empire State politicians coming up with progressive steps for a healthier New York and a solution to overcrowded courts and jails all in one program.

It provokes a plan I intend to explore with readers this summer. It's a bit radical, but with the obesity situation in America being so severe and literally growing more so almost daily, radical proposals are called for. I've give you a hint: You have heard of "fat farms?" That's where wealthy, over-fat people go for an extended period of time to subject themselves to extreme measures intended to give them bathing-suit bods? Think about a "fat prison." Really, don't reject the concept without deeper thought and we will get back to it soon.

(And please don't be offended. These are confusing issues that sometime call for a little tongue-in-cheek.)
